When you are injured, you need medical providers who will see you promptly, listen to your concerns and give you proper treatment. This makes a significant difference in the quality and cost of Zenith care and, most importantly, increases the chances for a good recovery.
Zenith provides injured workers with referrals to medical providers and medical facilities. Our goal is to find doctors who will treat patients with an appropriate level of care and who will avoid providing, and billing for, unnecessary medical services.
We will refer injured workers to doctors who should:
- Provide fair and objective medical treatment;
- Understand workers' compensation;
- Keep accurate, detailed medical records;
- Understand occupational injuries and the benefit of modified work assignments;
- Make an effort to understand the injured worker's job and seek ways to modify that job so the employee can return to work sooner;
- Communicate effectively with the injured worker and Zenith.
Zenith also provides specialized services to injured workers:
- Nurse case managers . Our nurses are trained and experienced in healthcare delivery and workers' compensation. They keep the lines of communication open between the doctor, Zenith, the injured employee and the employer. They make sure the doctor has the facts and information needed to give immediate and appropriate care. In addition, they provide support and education to minimize obstacles to an employee's early return to work.
- Return-to-work programs . Our claims representatives, nurses and return-to-work staff help employers and doctors create modified work opportunities that are safe for the employee.
- Specialty programs . In some areas of the country, we have developed specialty programs. In Northern California, for example, we have an upper extremity program designed to connect injured workers with doctors who specialize in these types of injuries (such as wrist and arm injuries from repetitive motion). As a result, injured workers see these doctors quickly, receive the treatment they need, and return to work safely.
- Prescription service . We provide a pharmacy benefit management program so injured workers can quickly and easily obtain the prescriptions they need to recover from their workplace injury, while making sure we pay the lowest possible price.
- Specialized medical relationships . We have relationships with both providers of medical equipment and medical diagnostic services to facilitate prompt referral and scheduling of medical care. These relationships help us to speed the diagnostic and recovery process for injured workers.
