Zenith Fraud Specialist Receives Investigator of the Year Award - October 2009
The Florida Workers’ Compensation Fraud Task Force awarded Jennifer Barcalow, a Zenith Insurance Company fraud specialist, with one of only two “Investigator of the Year” awards to recognize her “outstanding impact and positive effect on fraud investigations.”
Barcalow, who works in the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Zenith’s Sarasota, Fla. branch, was described by Lt. John Womer of the Florida Division of Financial Services—Division of Insurance Fraud (DIF) as “in a class of her own when it comes to organizing, documenting and then submitting a fraud case to the detectives.”
“Jennifer is tenacious in her effort to stay on top of the case,” Womer said. “She keeps in constant contact with the detective and state attorney with respect to the case.”
Barcalow, who has worked for Zenith for 13 years, has led the SIU in state fraud referrals for two years. “She is the best I have encountered while at DIF and in my 20-plus years in law enforcement, one of the best I have had the pleasure of working with in an investigative setting,” Womer said.
Zenith reviews every claim in which an employee has missed time from work for potential fraud or abuse. If fraud is suspected, the SIU will begin an investigation to collect evidence. If the SIU concludes fraud has occurred, the case and all pertinent evidence are referred to state fraud agencies. Since 2004, Zenith’s investigations have led to more than 160 arrests.
